project: you are the truth

you are the truth is a communal journal/storytelling project. Journal #001 was released 04 August 06 in Chicago, IL (US), and more than 3 dozen additional blank journals have since been sent to people in several cities, both in the US and abroad.

In the journals, people from all walks of life will record their stories and truths using words, drawings, photographs, found objects, etc. These are the stories you already have, the stories of who you are and what your experiences have been, your hopes, dreams and fears.

The journals will be passed from person to person, city to city, state to state and, in some cases, country to country. The end result will be stories gathered from people all over the world that would otherwise go unheard. My goal is to have hundreds and hundreds of these journals being passed from person to person. I want you to participate in this project.

My goal is to encourage people all over the world to contribute their stories to this project and keep the journals moving from person to person, until they’re filled. While we may not be communicating directly with one another as though we’re sitting in the same room having a conversation, the entries in the journals will resonate.

As the journals are returned to me, I’ll scan every one of them, and post the scans on this site and create on-going video documentaries from them. Yes, this is crazy, but in a good way.

This project wouldn’t exist without my exposure to the journals of the late Dan Eldon and the S.T.I.T.C.H.E.D project by Climbing PoeTree (the most obvious influence). I thank them all for the inspiration and their passion.

Important Note:
By voluntarily participating in you are the truth, you grant me (Leslie Stewart/aac films + community) the right to display your entries on this site and use your work in video/Flash projects. If there’s stuff you don’t want the world to know/see, please *don’t* add it to the journal. Add what you feel comfortable adding and having other people see.

All entries in the journals (writing, artwork, photos, etc.) are copyright to its respective owner. No part of the journals may be used or reproduced without the permisson of aac films + community.
